Pico Islands

Frequently Asked Questions

General

Who develops this Game? Who is BitSpree?

We are a two-man studio based in Germany and are pleased about every support to push on this project.

Pico Islands is a project of the heart for us, on which we have been able to work more in the evenings or on weekends so far.

Please note that this game is in an early development stage and is growing from month to month. Please don't be too harsh in your criticism if you are missing game content or we are not as active and fast in support as you are used to from big studios.

How can I support you?

On Android and iOS the best way to support us is to buy in-app gems or click on advertisements that interest you. It also helps us if you play rewarded ad videos to earn extra gems. For the desktop version we will offer more and more DLCs over time that you can purchase to support us. We would also be happy if you tell your friends about the game and give us a positive feedback in the store.

How can I restart the map?

You can always start from scratch by settling a new island. For this you go to the chest symbol and select the map tab. At least one map can be found here, which can be repopulated with the ship symbol.

Why don't you have an interactive tutorial / Why is it so difficult to get started?

We are aware that we currently still have a high entry threshold. We are working on a more comprehensive tutorial but unfortunately this takes a lot of time to develop. Therefore this wiki is our first step to make an easier start for new players. However, the best way to get into the game mechanics is still to try things out.

What are the benefits of building upgrades?

Basically, one can say that building upgrades always result in more throughput. This means that processing buildings also need more raw materials.

  • With the woodcutter and forester, the tree is cut/planted faster.
  • For the farmer, sowing and harvesting is faster.
  • Storehouses will have higher capacity.
  • In addition, the working range for forester, stonecutter, woodcutter and guard tower depend on the building level. For example, a woodcutter looks for trees further away from the building.

Why am I not able to find information in the graphical interface?

Many things in the game mechanics are not yet explained sufficiently in the graphical interface. This is partly because we try to keep it very minimal. On the other hand, the game is still in a very early stage of development. If we would already present everything in the graphical interface, we would have to maintain this information whenever we make changes to the game mechanics. We are still trying to minimize this extra effort.

Where is the long-term motivation / the endgame?

We realize that there is still a lack of a real goal on an island. We want to change this in the medium term and already have plenty of ideas. Currently we view a map as 'conquered' if you manage to launch a zeppelin. Of course you can carry on to play the map as long as you like after, but we want to encourage you to try and start settling a bigger island after you have reached this point in the game.

Why can I not build roads up and down?

This is actually wanted behavior and has a variety of game mechanical and visual reasons. This concept is used among others in the original Settlers and in games such as modern Civilizations. Often you can also see it as hexagonal tiles (honeycombs).

For example, it produces an offset between the game elements that will reduce occlusion. Also, it prevents unsightly perspectives on climbs where you could hardly see / select a road.

But above all, we save animations and pictures for movements to the "front" and "back", which would be two extra graphic sets for the workers (front view, rear view). Left and right are just a side view and the mirror image of it, so it is one graphics set.
