We know, it took a long time for this release to come out. One reason was the work on the desktop port, which now bears first fruits. Maybe you are already reading these lines in the Early Access version on the PC.
Desktop
We have been working on Pico Islands since 2017. Until now, the game was only available on mobile platforms. With this version, we are taking the big step to the desktop platforms. There we will use a different financing strategy. Instead of a free version with ads, the game will be available for purchase. However, since we want to continue working on Pico Islands and constantly improve it, we also need long-term income. Therefore, we plan to offer supporter packages in the future, which will be available as DLC (desktop) or in-app purchase (mobile). In these packages we only plan cosmetic and gimmick content. The base game will always be complete and on the latest release state.
Bug fixing
Since the last release we have also been able to fix some bugs thanks to your help. At the end of this page you will find a list of the most important ones.
One bug that causes a crash on nearly every 8th Android device is unfortunately still present. The cause is in the Qt-Framework that we use and has not been fixed by the developers yet. Be sure, we are as annoyed by this as you are.
Game design
Despite all these circumstances, we also managed to implement some new game content for you.
There are six new goods, four animals and a new building.
Once you have researched it, you can decide for your rancher whether he should have cows, chickens or sheep. From chickens you get feathers and the sheep lead you to yarn.
In and around forests hares and deer will show up with time. The forester can hunt them with arrows and turn them into leather. The arrows will be made by the blacksmith as soon as they have been researched by you.
In the paper mill, the new building, wood and feathers become writing paper.
Together with writing paper, yarn and leather, books can be produced later, which serve as an important prerequisite for the airship and thus the white vials.
In the following picture you can see an illustration of how the novelties fit into the flow of goods.
User interface
With the port to desktop come some major and minor tweaks to the user interface. Among the first is the building information dialog. This no longer opens full-screen above the game area. To make everything as accessible as possible on the play area and keep the user interface minimal the dialog now opens directly on the house above the map. This way you can still maneuver further in the game world and the dialog can be zoomed intuitively.
As some of you may have recognized from the screenshot above, you will now see which goods are already on their way to the building and thus also for which goods there is no delivery yet. At your request this is now visible in the info dialog.
In addition, we improved and fixed the following things:
